Under-eye surgery in Korea: fat repositioning, recovery and planning

Planning the stay

How should you plan a stay in Korea for under-eye surgery?

Build the stay around examination, surgery, postoperative review, any stitch removal and a check before departure. BAPRAS advises waiting 7–10 days before flying after facial cosmetic surgery; the operating surgeon sets the actual departure plan for your procedure and recovery. Is the length of the trip the same as postoperative time?

Arrival, consultation, surgery and departure are separate events. Allow time for the in-person examination and for understanding the proposed operation. A preliminary plan based on photographs needs to be checked against the actual findings before you consent.

When given a suggested stay, establish which event starts the count. Travel time and the days before the operation are not postoperative observation. Put arrival, examination, operation, reviews and departure on separate lines in your itinerary so the required appointments remain visible.

What information should you prepare before travelling?

Collect details of previous eye operations, under-eye treatments, dry-eye symptoms, current medicines, supplements, allergies and medical conditions. Preoperative assessment examines the lower-lid position, skin, fat, support and cheek relationship. Previous surgical records help explain what has already been done to those tissues.[1][2]

Prepare a medicine list with the name, reason for use and prescribing clinician. Do not set your own stopping dates; obtain coordinated instructions from the surgical team and prescriber. Include your proposed return flight, work commitments, companion arrangements and interpreting needs when arranging the consultation.

Read the proposed procedure back in your own words: the incision, what happens to the fat, any additional skin treatment and the follow-up plan. If an interpreter is needed, ask which appointments and discharge discussions they can cover. Keep the written explanation available beyond the initial consultation.

Build the itinerary around the operation

Step 1 of 4: Confirm the examination and procedure

Identify the incision, fat treatment and any skin removal. The review schedule follows the actual operation.[1]

Step 2 of 4: Reserve the postoperative appointments

Add wound review, any suture treatment and the predeparture assessment. Check opening days and interpreting arrangements.

Step 3 of 4: Choose bookings that can accommodate changes

Review accommodation extensions and flight-change conditions. Share booking details with anyone helping during the stay.

Step 4 of 4: Prepare the handover home

Collect the operation record, medicines, review findings and contact route. Separate information sharing by message from arrangements for examination in person.

Does an inner-eyelid operation mean no stitch appointment?

Repositioning through the conjunctiva can use temporary sutures that pass externally to secure the fat. Suture treatment depends on the fixation method as well as skin closure. Ask separately about fat-fixation sutures, skin stitches and tapes.[1]

For eyelid operations using removable stitches, NHS patient guidance gives a removal interval of 7–14 days. That interval should not be assigned automatically to every transconjunctival operation. The surgeon should describe the actual closure and fixation method and its appointment requirements. NHS Guy’s and St Thomas’ aftercare, checked 4 November 2026

If treatment of the stitches is proposed elsewhere, obtain the instructions in advance and confirm that the receiving facility accepts the arrangement. A plan to find someone after you return leaves the handover unfinished. Record who will examine the area and what documents they need.

What determines the flight date?

The BAPRAS interval of 7–10 days concerns facial cosmetic surgery broadly. It is not a specific clearance date for orbital fat repositioning. The surgeon considers the performed operation, review findings, additional procedures and the journey when advising on departure. BAPRAS overseas surgery guidance, checked 4 November 2026

Ask your airline whether medical information or documentation is required for your booking. Airline conditions and clinical advice answer different questions, so check both. Finishing a stitch appointment does not automatically answer the question of travel readiness.

Plan the whole journey, including the transfer to the airport, baggage handling, access to prescribed medicines and transport after landing. If someone accompanies you, divide these tasks before surgery. Keep the information needed to alter bookings in a shared, accessible place.

What makes accommodation practical during recovery?

Choose a place from which you can attend the planned reviews and rest comfortably. Check access to handwashing, a clean area for medication and meals that do not require complicated arrangements. Understand the check-in process before the operation rather than learning it while returning from the clinic.

Leave room in the itinerary for rest. BAPRAS advises separating sightseeing from postoperative recovery and, if combining a trip with tourism, doing the sightseeing before the operation. Ask the surgical team which ordinary activities can fit the recovery plan. BAPRAS overseas surgery guidance, checked 4 November 2026

Arrange the journey away from the surgical facility and any required companion. NHS guidance recommends having someone available to help after eyelid surgery. Confirm the actual escort and support requirements with the facility because anaesthesia and discharge arrangements differ. NHS Guy’s and St Thomas’ aftercare, checked 4 November 2026

How should care continue after returning home?

Request a record of the operation date, tissue treatment, incision, fat-fixation method, medicines and postoperative findings. Ask whether the record can be supplied in a language usable by a clinician at home. An abbreviated procedure name does not describe every relevant step.

Keep routine contact details, response hours and the out-of-hours route separately. Ask how the team will advise when an examination is needed after travel. Use an account and device that remain accessible at home, and retain the documents independently of a booking conversation.

When discussing the itinerary with a Sinsa consultation service for surgical eye-bag treatment, distinguish fixed commitments from bookings that can still change. Confirm the clinical appointments first, then align accommodation and flights with them.

Common questions about a Korea stay

Should I book to fly home on the operation day?

Arrange travel after the postoperative assessment and specific advice on flying. BAPRAS gives a 7–10 day waiting interval after facial cosmetic surgery. BAPRAS overseas surgery guidance, checked 4 November 2026

Will I avoid a stitch appointment if no skin is removed?

That depends on fat fixation as well as wound closure. Ask whether external fixation sutures require treatment.[1]

Can photographs replace the predeparture appointment?

The surgical team decides whether an intended examination can be replaced by another form of review. Include the requested in-person visits in the original itinerary.

Which documents should I take home?

Request the operation details, medicines, review findings, suture plan and future review arrangements. Save the contact route with those records.
